Keys to Victory - Cruz Azul vs Club América for the Title
Millions of Mexican soccer fans waited patiently all season for a classic match in the final. Sadly leg 1 didn’t deliver, but typically the second leg of the LigaMX finals provide the fireworks and memories to last a lifetime. At least that’s what we’re all hoping for. Here are my final keys to victory for each team for the 2018 Apertura Final!
Continue the counter attack strategy. América will need to make sweeping changes to try and break the Cruz Azul defensive effort.
Take advantage of América’s injuries. The injuries to Uribe and Martinez (even if they play) should provide more freedom for the Cruz Azul Midfield to attack. Bring Elias off the wing and play down the middle.
Utilize speed. Simply put, Alvarado needs to use use his speed to make dangerous runs into the box.
Force Cruz Azul to chase the ball. If La Maquina wants to park the bus then pass it along the back line and wear out their forwards.
Avoid careless fouls. Cruz Azul is aggressive, and América needs to keep cool when they attempt to antagonize. Bruno was picked on in the opening of leg 1 and was fortunate to not receive a red card for his punch to Marcone.
Play two forwards up top. Roger had good chances to make a difference but time after time he found himself without support.
Let’s see what happens. Hoping these two teams do more than just sit back and defend; we all deserve better.
